Laplink Software Inc. has started a campaign to help prevent consumers from purchasing products from vendors who mislead customers through the misuse of the Laplink trademark. Laplink has begun aggressively enforcing trademark laws against the illegal use of the "Laplink" trademark. Laplink has commenced with Cease and Desist letters initially sent to over twenty companies to stop them from branding or describing their products using the trademark "Laplink".
"Everyday we are made aware of consumers who have been tricked into purchasing products that have misused our trademark," said Thomas Koll, CEO of Laplink Software Inc. "Even though trademarks are well protected under our current laws, Search Engine Advertising remains to be a problem when it comes to protecting trademarks. We plan to work with all willing partners to combat this fraudulent activity and protect the online shopping experience. Key distribution partners and online resellers have pledged their full cooperation."
The Laplink trademark was awarded in 1987 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office and has been subsequently registered and renewed around the world. For over 20 years, the term "Laplink" has been synonymous with high quality and innovative file transfer, synchronization, and remote access products for PCs.
"The unauthorized use of trademarks on the Web is a growing problem," says Catherine Seda, Internet marketing expert and author of Search Engine Advertising. "Some competitors create knock-off products then market them under another company"s trademarks through search engines, e-mail and other promotional campaigns. Consumers might not realize this until it"s too late. Trademark owners need to constantly police the Internet for infringement incidents."
Laplink intends to follow the issuance of "cease and desist" letters to various manufacturers that have been identified as being in violation of trademark and copyright laws and will pursue further legal action when required.
For more than 25 years, Laplink has been the leader in providing software used for PC migration, remote access, file transfer, and synchronization. The privately-held company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Bellevue, Washington.
